Right, so welcome to my blog, I'm gonna try and put bands and music that I'm listening to or interested in on here, in the hope that you will feel the same way as me.
So to kick-start the new year, I'm going to start with my new artists to look out for in 2010. The list is in alphabetical order, no numerical order as to who I have most faith in.
CHAPEL CLUB
http://www.myspace.com/chapelclub
Having just signed to A&M for an apparently huge fee, these are one of the bands of the moment and I'm really excited about them. Everything I've heard so far has oozed class and with single 'O Maybe I' sounding brilliant and out in February, the opportunity to hear new material from them can only be a good thing.
Download free track 'All The Eastern Girls' here - it's brilliant.
DARWIN DEEZ
http://www.myspace.com/darwindeez
Fun and very-easy on the ears. Darwin Deez creates catchy, light-hearted pop, that sucked me in instantly, can easily imagine him being the soundtrack to many people's summer with chilled out guitars and mellow beats, his Julian Casablancas style vocal sprawling out on it's sun-tinged backdrop.
Listen to 'Radar Detector'
DELPHIC
http://www.myspace.com/delphic
Using both synths and guitars in equal measure, Delphic have managed to creat a huge, atmospheric sound, a landscape that you wouldn't feel out of place on the dancefloor or lay in bed. If I were to describe their sound in one word it would be 'full'. Oh and coincedently, their debut album 'Acolyte' came out today so go check it out.
Listen to 'Counterpoint'
ELLIE GOULDING
http://www.myspace.com/elliegoulding
She may be on everyone's tips for next year but that's because she's going to be absolutley massive. Already dividing opinion with NME loving her one minute and slating her the next, I can safely say I absolutely love her. Turning folk into pop music thanks to her good friend Starmith, her music twinkles and it's clear she's heading for good things. After the big success of debut single 'Under The Sheets' and with her album due out in March it's good to see local talent being recognised.
Listen to 'Starry-Eyed'
FENECH-SOLER
http://www.myspace.com/fenechsoler
They want you to dance and have a good time, and that you will! Their song 'Lies' is absolute massive and would go down a treat on any dancefloor, with beats and basslines bouncing all over the place and vocals that stay in your head all day long, these guys will be all over the indie discos this year.
Listen to 'Lies'
GOLDHAWKS
http://www.myspace.com/goldhawks
Sounding like Ryan Adams singing for early U2, Goldhawks make epic-sounding pop-rock. It's uplifting and inspiring and very accessible, which is never a bad thing when wanting to get as many fans as possible. They're destined for big things and their music transfers well onto the stage and sound great were they to play in a stadium.
Listen to 'Where In The World'
LITTLE COMETS
http://www.myspace.com/littlecometsmusic
This band make insanely catchy guitar-pop songs, with big choruses that instantly make you want to get up and dance, add to this the fact they are one of the funniest and loveable bands I have ever seen and you're onto a winner. These Geordie boys really deserve to do well and I'd love to see it happen.
Listen to 'Adultery'
LOCAL NATIVES
http://www.myspace.com/localnatives
Very, very pleasantly surprised by these guys, they've produced a brilliant album that has lush harmonies, big drums and scratchy guitars. Think they may take quite a few people by surprise this year, following in the footsteps of labelmates 'The Temper Trap' who've done well for themselves this year.
Listen to 'Camera Talk'
LYREBIRDS
http://www.myspace.com/lyrebirdsmusic
Making dark, gloomy rock, they remind me a lot of Interpol, a thing that always goes down well. I'd love to see Lyrebirds do well in this coming year. Having just being on tour with The Maccabees (my favourite band), they impressed many and have started to build up their fanbase by having a big live show and captivating songs.
Listen to 'Closer'
TWO DOOR CINEMA CLUB
http://www.myspace.com/twodoorcinemaclub
Coming from Northern Ireland and only consisting of two guitars and a bass (a mac is used for drums), I have fallen in love with these guys over the past 6 months or so, every song I've heard I've been more than impressed by and their current single 'I Can Talk' is brilliant, pacey drums, soaring guitars and sweet effects on the vocals, it sums them up well. Really cannot wait for their debut album, due out in March.
Listen to b-side 'Costume Party'
Oh and if you're wondering where The Drums are in this list as everyone seems to be tipping them, I really hope they do badly this year as from the few interviews I have seen, they are one of the most arrogant and awkward bands I have ever seen, think it has something to do with the lead singer being a prick. They've have one pretty good song and that's it, who the hell do they think they are?!
Watch The Drums interviewed here
I hope that you've enjoyed reading this and that some if not most of these predictions come true as not only will it make me look better, but I will have lots more music from these lovely artists to listen to!
Peace and love,
Elliot
